can't save images as anything but .bmp

Hello. I cannot save any pictures as anything other than
a .bmp. I can manually enter for example, picture.jpg or
picture.gif and the file will save as that type, but it
will still be as big as a .bmp (about 1-2MB). If I try to
save an animation for example from animationfactory.com
when I try to save it, I only get the option of saving
the picture as a .bmp. And even if I save the picture as
a .gif it will not be animated, it just sits there. Can
anyone PLEASE HELP?! Feel free to e-mail me if you have
trouble understanding what my problem is. Thanks to
anyone who can help.

Hey Scott I had an automatic up grade a couple weeks ago
that did the same thing to my comptuer. Doesn't matter if
the original is a .gif or a .jepg or a.jpg it saves only
as an untitled.bmp. If you find an answer to this please
email me the fix or the url. Thanks. James
