Can't save animated GIF files

When I try to save an animated GIF image: right-click on
picture, select "save picture as" the only file format
options available are jpg or bmp. The file will save as a
jpg, but will not be animated when I view it in explorer.
If I type in the gif extension when saving,
e.g.: "picture.gif" the picture will save and will show up
in Properties as a gif image, but will not be animated and
can only be viewed in Windows Picture & Fax Viewer; if I
try to view it in Explorer (as I would ordinarily do with
an animatewd gif) I get only a red-x-in-a-box, and get
nothing when I click on "show picture".
I used to be able to save gif's, and I CAN VIEW my
older already saved animated gifs in explorer, and they
ARE animated! Don't know what happened or how to correct
it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S.: Please note that I already tried Internet
Options>General>Temporary Internet Files>Delete Files and
it did nothing. I still have only 2 format options (jpg
and bmp, and can't "write in" a gif extension in File
Name. If it helps, note also that my ISP is Earthlink.
