Can't print to HP 882c deskjet on XP Home via USB

J

John Spooner

I just bought a new pc that runs XP Home (hardware
details below) and I want to continue using my deskjet
882c. The printer was hooked to a Win98 pc via USB and I
never had a problem. With the new setup (deskjet <-USB->
pc) I get (at MOST) a half page printed.

I have ruled out a problem with the USB ports since other
USB devices work fine.

My father has XP Pro and he can print to a 900 series
deskjet thorough USB and to a 700 series through LPT1 so
I believe it can be done. He is running XP Pro and I am
running XP Home. Does account for the difference.

HW:
Sony VAIO PCV-RS410
P4 2.66 GHz
256 Mb
OS: XP Home Version 2002 SP 1

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I recently got a new computer (with XP Home) and hooked up my old HP890c
printer using the parallel cable (LPT1). It works fine so your printer
should cerainly work. I don't know enough to give you more technical
advice about the printer settings in control panel etc. but look into those.

You describe the same thing that happened to me...computer not the sam
but the description of the 882c, etc., is same. A solution is offere
at: http://tinyurl.com/yrd83 I have not tried this yet, so I canno
vouch for its efficacy. Good luck

It's Duane again. That web-site that I gave you provides a ver
complicated solution to an easy task, as it turns out. I tried it bu
it didn't work for me. The better solution is to use the driver that X
provides...... 1) click on control panel, 2) click on PRINTERS AN
FAXES, 3.) click on ADD PRINTER---which takes you to an on-board lis
of drivers. Find HP in the left column, and the Deskjet 882c in th
right column--très facile. I made the mistake of using the origina
driver on the CD that came with the printer, which will not work wit
XP. Ya gotta use the XP's resources, as above
