Can't open ppt attachments in Outlook Express

If I get a Powerpoint e-mail attachment (ppt), I cannot open it by clicking
on it in Outlook Express 6.0. I get a message that says it's not associated
with a program, and I should fix that in Control Panel/Folder Options/File
Types. But that association DOES exist.
I can save it to my HD; then I can click on the file, and it DOES know it is
associated with the Powerpoint Viewer, so it opens.
Also, I can click on .doc and .xls attachments in Outlook Exp., and they
open just fine. (I use XP SP2).

Outlook Express is not part of Office. It's a Windows/Internet Explorer
program unrelated to Office's Outlook. You must first save office files to
disk and use your viewer to open them.

Ask in an Outlook Express newsgroup.

While you may be right, what's confusing is that I CAN open Word and Excel
attachments directly from Outlook Express, and they are also Office apps.

Sorry - didn't see Outlook Express discussion group ... it's buried under
Windows XP.

Actually, it's buried under Internet Explorer.
