Can't login after updates

I just did an automatic update to my XPP. After doing so, my logon method
changed to the welcome screen and asked for a password which I never had and
could not logon. So, I then rebooted as my last known good configuration and
I got to my desktop. I then made sure I had NO passwords and changed the way
you logon to not use the welcome screen. I then went back to microsoft
updates and downloaded the following KB873339, KB885835, and KB886185. After
this, a password was required again which I don't have. Only way I could get
booted up was to revert again. Is there a problem with one of these updates
? My version of XP says SP2 V2096 which is a result of installing SP2
version given out during a Microsoft Security conference I attended. I got a
response a few days ago which directed me to some website which exppains what
to do when you FORGET your password. I did not forget, there never was one.
Any ideas ?

Dave, I have the exact same problem. I've been trying to troubleshoot this
for several days but to no avail. So please, XP gurus, if you're out there,
help us out because we are stuck with having to login in via the last know
good configuration everytime we reboot or turn on the computer.

Dave,
You have to uninstall SP2 because it is a BETA version and it is the one
responsible for the conflict with the latest windows updates.
Go to C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe and run this
file. You have to set the folder options to view all hidden files and folders
to see this.
After uninstalling this, you have to reinstall all the updates and SP2 and
more updates. It'll take a couple of hours.
This solved the problem.
A windows professional online specialist recommended this fix...but I did
not do this until after doing the major biggie uninstall. It did not do
anything for me as I had solved the problem already.
Step 1
=====
1. Download Tweak UI from the following link:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe
2. Double-click the downloaded .exe file to install Tweak UI.
3. Click Start -> All Programs -> Powertoys for Windows XP -> TweakUI.
4. Expand Logon, and check Log on automatically.
5. Check the issue.
If the issue is not resolved, please refer to Step 2.
Step 2
=====
1. Click Start, click Run, and type "control userpasswords2" (without the
quotation marks).
2. Clear the Users must enter a username and password to use this computer
check box. Click Apply.
3. Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with,
and then click OK.
4. Click OK again and you're all done.

So Dave, let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Andy
