Can't boot up from recovery CD for XP Home

I tried to start in safe mode and received the message that the system 32
files were either missing or corrupted. Then tried to boot up from the
Windows XP Home recovery disc; received the message Bad Pool Cooler and STOP:
0x000000C2. There have not been any changes to the hardware. I'm now stuck
and would be grateful for help. Many thanks KB

Disconnect all connected devices (printers, drives, modems, network
and other USB devices.)

Access the PC's BIOS and make sure that your CD / DVD drive is set to
be the primary boot device.

If you still have problems, then the CD could be "damaged" or the
drive is failing. Try reading the CD on a different PC so as to see
if the CD is good.

I am using the recovery CD to boot up from. Also when I used another Windows
XP Home CD, I had the same problem. So there doesn't seem to be a problem
with the recovery CD. Using the recovery CD, the PC goes through the routine
of loading all of the required pieces of the platform. At the end it then
examines the hard drive and then shuts Windows down with the error mesage,
below. It says that continuing could damagre the PC. Nothing is connected to
the PC. Is there anything else I should do; does this sound like a software
or hardware problem? Many thanks, KB
