Can't access Windows Update site

Hi there,
Just wondered if anyone could help me with this. Whenever I try to access
the windows update site, the site tells me that

You must be running a Microsoft Windows operating system in order to use
Windows Update.

I am running Windows XP I don't understand why it doesn't recognize my
computer. It did work previously, but today when I tried to get updates it
gave me this message? Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? Thanks.

Are you using Internet Explorer? I think that you need a browser
suooprting ActiveX's which is Internet Explorer or Netscape with plugins
(although it dosent work on my computer) fow Windows Update.
