Canon Powershot S10 and Windows XP

Does anyone know how to install a Canon Powershot S10 on Windows XP?. The Canon web site has a driver for Windows XP (not verified) but Windows rejects it with the message 'Cannot install this hardware: Powership S10. An error occurred during the installation of this device. The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device.' I am logged on as the adminstrator but it seems to make no difference.

thanks for your help

I would be interested to hear the answer to this as I had the same situation
and despite the efforts of the Canon help line they could not help. There
only suggestion was to buy a card reader as this would also help with
battery life.

Canon requires that the driver be installed *before* the camera is
connected the first time. If you have tried to install the driver with
the camera connected, then you will have to clean up the failed
installation to install the driver correctly.

To clean up the installation, connect the camera. From add/remove
programs, remove any Canon software and TWAIN. From Device Manager,
View menu, select Show Hidden devices. Remove any references in Device
Manager to cameras in USB and any other places you find them. From
Scanners and Cameras control panel, remove the any camera that show up
there. Shut down. Disconnect the camera and do not reconnect until the
driver requests or has been installed properly.

Reboot, do not connect the camera, install the driver. Connect the
camera when requested or after the installation has completed.

In my case I did install the driver clean but without success. The process
of cleaning the installation was repeated several times again without
success. I even went through the installation with two of Cannon's engineers
(plus there initial help desk) without success. The driver does work for
"98SE" however that was of no great use to me. In the end I had a good
retailer who exchanged the Camera for a Minolta which connected without any
problems.
