Cannot send mail due to SMTP server error

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server.

The rejected e-mail address was '< username>@saber.net'. Subject 'Re: For
<account>', Account: 'SaberNet', Server: 'smtp.saber.net', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '550 5.7.1 Access denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

Try replacing your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server to a pop.

So that both incoming and outgoing are the same.

Did you try and disable you AV email scanning option for both incoming or outgoing mail. Also do you have any anti spam for email installed. If you do then disable that also

That error message means saber.net thinks you are not allowed
to use their SMTP server, perhaps because of some spamming
violation. Contact your ISP's tech support for help.

Problem resolved: by entering smtp:comcast.net (due to using a different
location)

Becuase this machine is not connecting at it's typical location I had change
the SMTP address from Saber to Comcast.

Thanks

Yeah, this is a common problem for people trying to use the SMTP
server of their home ISP when away from home.

I face the same problem. I am in Shanghai and go to see the ISP provider -
China Telecom (Shanghai) but they do not provide SMTP server name. Pls advise.

If you can't send email thru the server you are now connected to, you might
try getting a (free) Gmail account.
https://www.gmail.com

Enable POP mail on the Gmail webmail site, and you should be able to send
thru it. You can still receive thru your regular account.

Thanks Dave.
So you suggest to use web-based email in China and leave the Vista Windows
Mail alone. XP Outlook seems not to have the same (SMTP) problem, right?

Can someone use Gmail from China?
Didn't Google do a deal with China
not to rock the boat?

You will have to get those settings from your ISP (or mail provider,
if different from your ISP). If you can't find those directions on their
website, let us know who it is, and we can look it up for you.
