Cannot send email when clicking a link on a web page

I understand you have used Default Programs to verify that Windows
Mail has all of its defaults. You should do the same for IE, since a
URL link is normally passed to IE. It may also help to reset IE:
Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Reset.

With regard to MailTo links not working, open Default Programs,
click on "Associate...", scroll down to the bottom where the Protocols
are listed, and verify that WM is assigned to MailTo. While you are
there, also verify that IE is assigned to the HTTP protocol.

I am having a similar problem as others on this thread. I have never been
able to successfully send an e-mail from a link on a webpage or within an
e-mail (although I can write and send an e-mail in Windows Mail). I used to
have the multiple pages opening in addition to the error message, but my
computer must have downloaded an update that fixed that as I no longer get
the multiple windows. But I still get the error message:
"Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not
properly installed".

As I said, I have verified that Windows Mail is my default client (it has
all its defaults). I am using gmail that is downloaded into Windows Mail.
Could this have anything to do with it?

Thanks this worked for me also. Wish i would have seen this earlier and not
wasted so much time contacting my IP provider

Thanks again

When I click on an email link on a web page I get this message:
Could Not Perform This Operation Because the Default Mail Client Is Not
Properly Installed.
This is a new computer with Vista installed
Any thoughts?

Glad it helped, but it's not my website. Mine is below.

I'm having the same issue. I've been reading some of the posts under this
topic and have done almost all off them. Did all defaults as everybody has
said to no avail. When I go to protocols, I have nothing that says MailTo or
IE.

IE is not a protocol, it is a program.
Did you scroll all the way down in that Set Associations screen?
'MailTo' is near the bottom, just below 'LDAP'.

G

George

I have LDAP but nothing in that area that says MailTo. The only items in
that area are FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, LDAP, MMS, NEWS, NNTP, SNEWS, WEBCAL.

Just an update. I now have MailTo in protocols and it is set to Windows
Mail. All my defaults are set with Windows mail and I still get the error.
I also reset IE as described in another post. Now what?

G

Gary VanderMolen

Did you also give IE all its defaults?
Other than that, I have no further suggestions.

Even though I have all my defaults set, IE reset, MailTo listed in protocols,
and all my other defaults set, should I try doing this myself? I'm somewhat
comfortable with computers, but by what I read, I'm not too sure about doing
this. BTW: I'm using Windows Live Mail now with all the defaults set and am
having all the same issues I had with Windows Mail.
