Cannot save '.theme' file in SP2

AaronB.

Hello,

I am running WIN XP PRO with SP2 installed. I have applied the patched
uxtheme.dll so that I may see other visual styles than the luna msstyle. An
issue I cant resolve is that when I go to save my settings as a new theme
file, the display properties theme tab dialogue goes through the motions
allowing me to type the name for my new theme, etc., however, no theme file
is saved. I'm baffled. Kelly if you see this post, I have applied the
restore themes functionality reg file from your help site and it has no
effect. Anyone know about this issue and/or how to resolve it. Thanks in
advance for any help you can provide.

Love and kisses on all your pink parts,
Aaron

Hi Aaron, I'm having the same problem...even tried style xp from TGSoft and
it will allow me to change but as soon as i reboot, it reverts back to
classic and will not even allow the default XP theme. The uxtheme.dll gets
replaced during the SP2 install and I have repatched with no luck.
Hope you solve the issue, for me the solution was to restore my Ghost Image
and forget the SP2 as it messed up way to many things.

Thanks for your input John but before you ditch sp2, you must also replace
uxtheme.dll in the folder C:\windows\service pack files\i386 or it will be
replaced by the system file checker. That however doesnt explain why
'.theme' files will not save. I have also installed Styles XP ver. 2.13 and
still cannot use the windows theme tab dialogue to save theme files. I hope
someone here can answer this riddle.

Aaron:

There's a newer version of the patched uxtheme.dll available. The
older patched version no longer works under SP2 and will actually
"kill" any theme files that are loaded.

The newer version should be available on Neowin and is version 2.0.
Go to www.neowin.com and search for "uxtheme.dll multi patcher.exe"

I've used the new version and it works well with all the visual styles
and themes available.
