Cannot Open OE mail from IE6 Standard Toolbar

Hi all

I've never struck this before but recently found I can't open the OE6 mail
program from the IE6(SP1) browser but have to open it from Desktop, Start
Programs or an icon on the Quicklaunch bar. I do use Outlook for its
calendar and task functions but not as the mail program. The "Mail" button
on the IE6 browser page gives me only Outlook as the "Read Mail" option,
although OE is still there as the "Read News" program.

In IE6, Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Email gives me only Outlook to
choose from and I can't find a way to get OE as an alternative. I assume
this is an IE rather than OE issue.

Does anyone know how I can opt not to accept Outlook as the default mail
program? I've tried uninstalling Outlook and reinstalling it and I've
compared everything I can find in both IE6 and OE6 on my second/standby
machine with the same configuration and programs (which does still show the
choices).

I'm running Win98SE, IE6 with SP1 + cum updates, OE6 + updates, and
Outlook97 as part of MS Office97. I use an ADSL connection.

Have I forgotten something obvious or am I going to have to a complete
reformat and install of Win98SE (which of course involves then upgrading
progressively from IE5 to IE6 etc) if I want to get over this nuisance?

Any clues???
