Cannot open any websites at all

Just recently I am unable to use IE on XP Home Edition for browsing.
For any page I try to open, I get the message "The page cannot be
displayed. The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The
Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need
to adjust your browser settings." However, the pages open without
problem with Netscape. IE itself seems to open correctly and all
Internet connections work (dial-up). I have tried to adjust settings
and also restore them to default but nothing works. Any help greatly
appreciated.
