Cannot log on to WIndows XP Pro

Fred

Hi,
I installed some windows update files a few months ago and I recently
deleted some thinking that I did not need them. Now when I turn on
the computer, I cannot get to the screen to type in my password. I get
the following message " The procedure entry point AssocIsDangerous
could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll" "The
logon user interface DLL msgina.dll fail to load" "Contact your system
aministrator to replace the DLL or restore the original DLL"
Can anyone help me? Also, how can a fix the problem if I cannot log on
to the computer? Thank you, Fred

From MVP Doug Knox:
MSGINA.DLL is the logon interface for Windows. If you've used a 3rd party
themes program, or other to change the logon screen, this type of error can
result. It can also result from a corrupted registry key.

Boot your computer from the XP CD, and when prompted to install or repair,
choose Repair. This will take you into the Recovery Console. Choose the
XP installation and enter the Administrator password you choose at install,
if any.

At the command prompt, type:

EXPAND -R X:\I386\MSGINA.DL_ C:\Windows\System32

Where X is your CD-ROM drive letter. This extracts a clean copy of the DLL.
If this doesn't solve your problem, you may need to perform a "Repair"
installation. See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Tips, How to do a Repair
Installation.
