Cannot install things.

Hello I have a problem with windows update where nothing
will install. It usually freezes after downloading the
update, when it says "initializing installation....". I
also tried installing DirectX 9.0b without Windows Update
and that installation froze at the same point! Does
anyone know what is wrong?
