Cannot install IE6

I am running Windows XP 2002 home edition service pack 1. I am unable to
install IE6. I get a message that says a newer version of IE is already
installed. I cannot find the IE files the computer says I have. Is there a
way to bypass this issue and install IE 6. I have the CD-ROM for it.

Thank You

Hi Jo-Anne,
As Ted Said XP comes by default installed with IE Browser, what you need is
to configure IE to be your Default Browser to do that;
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs and there on Add Windows
Components check the Box ;
[ ] Internet Explorer Check this Box
Then Under Set Program Access and Defaults Be sure that IE is selected as
your Default Browser check the Radio Button Beside the Internet Exploerer.
Close the Add/Remove Programs and Reboot your Machine and Hopefully you will
have IE shows on your Start up Programs.
HTH.
Please let us know.

Why do you think you need to (re)install IE6, Jo-Anne?

Are you aware that support for WinXP SP1 ends on 10 Oct-06?

Thanks so much for your help. My IE was restored. It showed up on my
startup program list.
