Cookies issues again!

,Hi Everyone

I have Windows XP Home edition SP2 with IE 6. Now, somehow IE6 is not
accepting cookies from some sites. Like yahoo for example. I tried to create
a new email address on yahoo. Once I submit the form the error message from
the yahoo site says,"Your browser does not accept cookies. Cannot create
profile." I tried all methods of solving the issue to the best of my
knowledge which includes:

1) IE6 Tools menu - Internet Options - Privacy tab - bringing the slider
down to a low or Advanced button - check the Overide option - select the
Accept radio buttons for both first and third party cookies.

2) Tried reinstalling IE6 from the microsoft site. But in vain as the IE6
SP1 says I have a newer version so cannot install.

3)Tried all other trial and error and searching the net including
reinstalling JRE for God knows what!

Till I though I did give it a try here.

Please advice.

Thank you

Hi Philip :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0+
Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu.
Click on the "Privacy" tab.
Click the "Default" button (or manually slide the bar down to "Medium")
under "Settings".
Click "OK".

Make certain your time, date, and time *zone* settings are all correct.

Some firewalls will block cookies regardless of any settings you change in
IE. If using Zone Alarm, you can turn the blocking of Cookies on or off so
it might be worth taking a look at your firewall settings.

Hi Jan :)

Yes, a smile really is contagious. Thank you.

I appreciate your sincere and prompt suggestions to my concern. I tried them
all but in vain. What I am guessing is the answer should be somewhere among
your various suggestions. But that I may not be carrying out the procedures
right.

I was thinking of Remote assistance if possible. This way the expert, who is
you, could access and help me directly. This could save a lot of time for the
both of us. I f you think this is a good suggestion and you are convenient
with it, please do infom me. I have a 24 hour DSL internet connection. So
that should help in connecting at any point of time. Inform me as to what I
should do from my side for you to have Remote Access.

Once again thank you so much. :)

Sorry Phillip, but, I only work through the newsgroups so that others will
benefit as well. I will be most happy to assist you in trying to resolve the
problem as best I can. :)

Please try the following and see if it helps:

(1) Internet Explorer->Tools->Internet Options->
General Tab
Click the following buttons: Delete cookies. Delete Files (also button that
pops up: Delete Offline Content). Clear History. If you save any cookies,
history or offline content, then selectively delete the useless items. The
cookie(s) for the site giving you trouble would be one to delete.
(2) Temporarily disable antivirus/ firewall and any popup blockers/toolbars.
Check to see if that solves the problem. If it does, go through and isolate
which program is at fault. Change settings in that program.

3) Look for a file named HOSTS with no extension. (not Hosts.sam or
Lmhosts.sam). Could be a hidden file so you will have to be sure Show All
Files. Also, be sure to uncheck, Hide extensions for known file types. These
can be found in Folder Options: Go to Windows Explorer> Tools> Folder
Options>View> scroll down to Hide extensions for known file types and
uncheck it if it is checked.

You can open the Hosts file and edit it with notepad. Look for entries
related to the problem site. Either delete or place a # at each related
entry. The # symbol forces Windows to ignore that line. Save the new edited
version to the location where it was found. Reboot and see if that was the
cause of the problem.

(4) Index.dat files may be corrupted.

Delete the History folder and index.dat:
