i used to be able to get rapidshare.de

i now get an error message---the page cannoit be displayed

this has gone on for 2 weeks

i was told i had a problem with my dnsresolver and i had to clean the
cache

i have used the info i foind on several winsp help sites

it refers to editing the registry as in
http://www.techiwarehouse.com/cms/engine.php?page_id=163e0b14

but i cant find the reg entries it describes
i dont have a MaxCacheEntryTtlLimit or a NegativeCacheTime

so what do i do now

the site can be found by using www.rapidshare.de but its internal
links cant be used it is a huge hassle

i hv emailed the site 8 times with no reply

so maybe its not a dns error maybe its something else

any ideas?

You don't need to edit the registry to clear the cache. Just the following.

Start > run > cmd
ipconfig /flushdns

See if that helps.

First I wish to know, is this a site specific problem? Are you able to get
other sites fine?
If so, the reason is refusal of cookies from that site.

If not, then you should first try to clean dns resolver cache. Open command
prompt and type this "ipconfig /flushdns".
Now restart browser.

Let us know whether it helps or not.

Have you recently installed a new hosts file? If so, there may be an entry
in there that is blocking that site, such as an advertising banner or
something on their homepage. See if you can get into another page on the
site other than the homepage.

Try this (when connected to the internet)
Start > run > cmd
nslookup rapidshare.de
See if it comes back with an ip address or "non-existant domain"
Compare results with
nslookup www.rapidshare.de

Also, see if you've added rapidshare.de to one of your security zones
Tools > Internet Options > Security > (Click on each of your icons) > Sites
Try removing it or place it in your trusted zones (by adding *.rapidshare.de
to trusted sites)

Also, as SeaMaid suggested, have a look in your hosts file, for any
rapidshare related entries
Open up
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS
in notepad

To clear cookies, (in Internet Explorer)
Tools > Internet Options > (General tab) > Delete CookiesDelete files > (Check "Delete all offline content")

Also be sure spyware hasn't overwritten your DNS Server properties in your
network settings. I just came across a computer where this happened.
