Cannot Delete File

T

TERRY

We have a file on a XP Pro desktop that will not let us delete it. Has been
there a couple of weeks, computer has been restarted, have tried from safe
mode - no good. The user thinks it may have been an Apple file he tried to
copy for some reason.

The actual error message is as follows:
"Cannot delete file: cannot read from the source file or disk"

The file does not have an extension, and will not let me rename or move it
either.

Any ideas on how I can delete this file?

Try the following free utility:

Unlocker v1.8.1

The name of the file is"cagduv0p." It does not show up in the directory from
a command prompt, or if you look at his desktop from another user, only if
you are looking at his desktop. I can try the unlocker mentioned, but the
file does not appear to be locked. Windows seems to not be able to find the
file, even though it shows on his desktop? Very strange.

Is it actually on the desktop, and not in a long chain of folders on the
desktop? I've had problems like this with extremely long pathnames.

I'm not sure if this would help but have you tried deleting it in safemode?

Yes, it is directly on the desktop, and yes, I have tried to delete it from
the safe mode.

Thanx for the try though.
