Cannot change date format Desktop Background

I cannot change the date format in Control Panel, Regional and Language
Options, Regional Options tab, Customize English (United States), Date tab,
Short date format. When I try top change the format, I get an error message
that says that "one or more of the characters I typed in this field are
invalid".

A potentially related problem is that I cannot change the background of my
Desktop to anything other than a color. No photos, just colors.

What is going on? Please help.

Hi Robert,

Are you speaking of a work related system or your own? Beings you are
posting via CDO, is hard to tell from my end. If it is the former, take
this up with the IT department, if the latter; convince me.

This is a personal computer in my home. How do I convince you? Also,
although I would greatly appreciate any solutions you may offer, why do I
have to convince you? For what it is worth, I do not know what "CDO" means.

I think it means you are posting from the web based ms usenet thinggy.

Kelly,

Hey, it worked! Thanks! I had never added a registry key and associated
strings before. I was not sure what to expect when I rebooted. I even
stumbled accross the solution to the reason why I could not change my Desktop
background. A really productive day of computer troubleshooting for me.
Thanks again.
