Date Format Changes Back

Recently, my Windows XP (SP2) date format keeps changing back to MM/dd/yy
format after I set it to dddd, MMMM dd, yyyy format.

I see it after a day or two in my Outlook (2003) calendar view. When I go
back to Control Panel -> Regional Settings, etc. to change it back,
everything is fine for an indeterminate amount of time (a few days or more),
then it defaults back to the MM/dd/yy format.

I usually keep the computer running continuously, so it's not related to
rebooting, and I don't do the "sleep mode" thing. I only reboot when the
computer isn't running optimally.

One or more options/settings in an ever-growing number of third-party
applications may be disallowing the change(s) from "sticking". These include
but are not limited to Ad-aware Pro Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer,
SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor, CounterSpy, AVG Anti-Spyware,
Norton AntiVirus, McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware, NOD32, and Zone Alarm
(Free, Pro, & Security Suite).

Thank you for your response. I'm using PC-Cillin, but haven't got a clue what
option in that application could possibly do such a thing. I reset the date
format after sending the original message below, and today it's holding -
this is normal. I haven't kept a record of the exact amount of time between
'resetting' and the last time I changed it.

I'll keep an eye on it. The next time I discover that it's changed, I'll
look up which scheduled scans were run last.

Meanwhile, if anyone knows of any other reason this might be occurring, I'd
love to hear it.

It changed sometime after midnight last night (which would be Friday). No
virus scans seem to be connected with this.

Honestly, finding a program that could be influencing this would be like
finding a needle in a haystack - there are just too many possibilities.

Does anyone know of an update or some other thing that might be causing this?

I can't imagine what could have the "authority" to go in and change my date
format.

I want a long date, it keeps reverting back to short date.

Do the settings in control panel--regional and languages actually change?
Or, is it something in Outlook?
As I said the long date does not have MM/dd/yy so I am confused as to your
problem..

The settings do change - my Outlook Calendar displays "Saturday, October 25"
when I set my Regional and Language Options to Long Date Format (dddd, MMMM
dd, yyyy).

After an indeterminate amount of time (usually a week, more or less), it
reverts back to "10/25". I then go back to Regional and Language Options and
click Advanced and Date, then change it back again. Then, after a time it
starts all over again.

I don't recall when it first started, but it's probably been less than 4-5
months since it began. I don't know of any major changes to the computer
other than normal use.

I suppose I may be looking in the wrong place - how do I tell Outlook to
display long date instead of short date? It always displayed long date in the
weekly calendar - for as long as I can remember! Now it behaves as I've
described above.
