Cannot Access Windows Installer

Have tried msconfig, unregistering and re-registering, device manger setting
changes, system restore, starting in safe mode and other suggestions noted in
newsgroups under windows installer. Continue to receive message that
installer cannot be accessed. Is it possible to simply uninstall and
reinstall? How do I know if Windows Installer is even in my computer? What
can I do?

Hi Donald,

Click Start, Run, and type SERVICES.MSC. In the right pane, right-click
Windows Installer, and then click Start. Also, set the service "Startup
Type" to Manual.

Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is available:

error 1628 failed to complete installshield...Should I try to download
installer 3.1v2 or am I asking for trouble. As you can probably tell, I
don't know much about this type of problem

Hi,( I hope I'm in the right place.) I have tried just about
everything.Unregistering-reregistering etc. I typed 'sevices.msc' in the
'run' box & in the Windows installer properties box the start up type says
'manual' the path executable says 'C:\Windows\System32\Msiexec.exe/V' & when
I press 'start' it looks like its about to then I get the yellow ! triangle
saying 'Could not start windows installer services on local computer. Error
3. The system cannot find the path specified'. I am also having trouble with
'System Restore' it goes through the process then at the end says it didnt
work & to try another restoration point, but none of them work, & I get a
pop-up telling me the virtual memory is running out so Its stopping certain
applications. & when I start my computer there is a continual flow of error
messages
which is driving me nuts. I dont know if theyre all related, but I thought
I'd start with the Installer prob as that was one of the 1st problems to
start. Sorry this is so long. Dmarie.
