Cannot access secure sites with IE6 / XP

Hi,

Please help me with this problem. I am having difficulty accessing
secure sites with IE6. After logging into eBay, AOL or hotmail a
"cannot access server / dns error" message appears.

Current setup:

Dell 8300 3.2Ghz, 1024mb ram
Windows XP SP1 - firewall turned off
IE6 with 128 bit cipher strength with latest updates
Norton Internet Security 2004
Belkin 7630 ADSL Modem Wireless G Router - firewall turned off.
ADSL account with BT Internet

I have followed all the advice in Microsoft's guidance note 813444
(and others) without success.

I was temporarily able to gain access to the above sites last night by
turning off the router's firewall and restarting IE6. However, the
problem returned after the PC was started this morning. Restarting the
router seems to give a brief respite to this immensely frustrating
problem.

I have contacted BT's technical support. After a robust exchange of
opinions BT admitted to lacking the expertise to help. Similarly,
Belkin have failed to help. They even refused to replace a faulty
mains adaptor supplied with the router - I am using a Maplin supplied
multi-volt model. There is a culture of ISPs, router manufacturers and
software companies blaming each other at the expense of customer care.

It is interesting to note that the factory installed AOL 8 software
allows access to all sites. Unfortunately, I have just cancelled my
AOL account.

I have tried Mozilla and Netscape without success. Is Opera worth a
try?

What router / adsl modem is recommeded. I have arranged a refund for
the troublesome Belkin model.

Thanks in advance,

Mart

You are describing a common problem with the Belkin F5D7630 - its nothing to
do with BT Internet/Openworld

Its resolved by updating the firmware on the device - available from
Belkin's web site (http://makeashorterlink.com/?Z11321147)
