Can Outlook 2003 use Messenge 6.2 instead of 4.7?

I just purchased a new computer this weekend (Dell, Windows XP Home SP2) and
loaded up all of the available updates to the OS, Internet Explorer, etc.
Next, I installed Office 2003 Professional. I disabled the Messenger v4.7
integration with Outlook 2003 as discussed in other posts here.

Next I loaded/upgraded to v6.2 of Messenger and it seemed to run properly as
a stand-alone application. So I re-enabled Messenger integration on Outlook
2003. The next time I booted up and ran Outlook, the Messenger icon appeared
in the taskbar. When I double-clicked it, it came up as v4.7 again!

Finally my question: How do I get Messenger v6.2 to integrate its
functionality with Outlook 2003 instead of v4.7? I thought I had uninstalled
v4.7 but it still comes up with Outlook. So I've resorted to disabling the
integration feature again as a last resort.

Oh, I didn't know there were different versions! Okay, well what I installed
was evidently MSN Messenger v6.2.

Also, I think the uninstall of v4.7 (Windows Messenger?) was successful
because...

I've selected (checked) the "Enable the Person Names Smart Tag" and "Display
Messenger Status in the From field" boxes on the 'Other' tab in the 'Options'
dialog and the little messenger icon/puppet thing appears once again in thd
'From' field of a sender's message, BUT it's gray - not brown like it used to
be when a contact is offline.

Thanks for the help on this! I'm learning some new stuff at least!
