Outlook 2003 and Msger Ver 4.7 instead of 6.2

When using Outlook 2003, Messenger 4.7 runs and logs me out of Version 6.2. vice versa when running 6.2.
Is there a way to have 6.2 running in Outlook 2003 instead of 4.7 ???

Greetings Alan Tilley,

I am not so sure if you can auto run MSN Messenger 6.2 with Outlook 2003. I
believe you can't do this. Windows Messenger 4.7 was programmed into the
code of Microsoft Outlook 2003 to run as Outlook opens up.

Sorry...

Thanks and good luck!

Greetings Alan,

Actually 6.2 should actually work with Outlook 2003 (previous versions of Outlook would have
caused the problem you're seeing but this was corrected in 2003).

As a workaround however, you can simply turn off the Messenger functionality in Outlook 2003
as you probably aren't even using it. To do so, click the Tools menu in Outlook, then choose
Options, choose the Other tab, uncheck "Enable the Person Names Smart Tag" and click OK.

Is there a way to turn off Messenger functionality if you are using Outlook
Express 6?

Thanks.

Hi Pete,

Yes there is. Simply close Outlook Express, then download and run the following .reg file:

Thanks Jonathan. What exactly does that do? I was able to find something
on Microsoft's website that had me edit the group policy using gpedit.msc
from the run command line. Basically saying to not have Windows Messanger
run. The only problem was that this caused Outlook to take about 30 seconds
more to start. Will running this file do the same thing? I assume that
this doesn't remove WM and if I needed to run it I still could.

Thanks again.

Hi Pete,

This is a documented registry key in Outlook Express, *not* Group Policy that will simply
turn off all Messenger functionality within Outlook Express (and if you run this after this
change you've already made, it will fix the 30 second problem as well).
