Can no longer receive smtp mail

I have not been able to receive my roadrunner email in Windows Mail for two
days. I had no problem with Mindows Mail prior to 7/16/07. I can access the
mail through rr.com, but it will not show up in my inbox. I have been
receiving my imap mail the whole time. I can send mail from the smtp
account, but just not receive it. No settings have changed from my server.
I tried to delete and then add the account back, but that was no help. I am
running Mcaffe and would prefer not to delete it. I did try to disable its
mail settings, but still couldn't get any mail in my inbox. Has windows had
any updates in the past few days that could cause this? Everything was fine
until two days ago.

Thanks for any help.

Similar problem - I'm running AVAST, the Windows Security box keeps popping
up asking for user ID and password, I type it in, then it pops up again.

Are you using any other third party security software (besides Avast),
such as anti-spam or anti-spyware?
Did the problem begin shortly after installing new software or updates?

No other anti-virus software running. Problem began after Internet Provider
switched their mail server. Got that straightened out - all userid and
password information is correct with them. It's my mother's computer, so I'm
not sure if it was after an update, but the update record indicates it was
updated around the same time.

I trust you have Avast configured NOT to scan emails.

If you haven't done so already, recreate the mail account in
Windows Mail, then delete the old account. Sometimes
accounts get corrupted for no apparent reason.

If that doesn't fix it, you could try rolling back the most recent
Microsoft Windows Updates.

Yes to Avast configuration - it's not scanning emails. Also yes to recreated
account, did that twice. Also uninstalled the last Windows update from 7/13
and that didn't help either. The box that keeps popping up is a Windows
Security box, once you enter user name and password, it comes back. If you
cancel it out, you get the error message mention at the beginning of this
thread.
