Can no longer click a .jpg & set as desktop

I can no longer right click on a .jpg and set it as my desktop background. I
must instead do it via the Control Panel/Display. I've searched for an answer
to no avail, and have also followed the advice once given by Ramesh, MS-MVP,
concerning a revision to my registry. Suggestions?

Alice,

Set the folder view to Thumbnails. Right-click on a JPG file and choose "Set
as Desktop Background". If that does not help or if that option does not
appear, try these two commands from Start, Run dialog:

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

Not all the Picture Viewing Program has the option of "Set as Background" or
"Set as Wallpaper". First, you must check that when you double-click the file
in which program it opens. Then try another one and see the right-click
option in both programs.

By Default, in Windows XP "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" opens the
graphics files. Try right-clicking on graphic file and choose Open With -
WPFV. Now, see if the right-click has the Background option.

More over, you can also change the VIEW to FilmStrip to set the background
more quickly. Click the View button from Standard Toolbar and see if there is
an option of "FilmStrip". If it is not then open the Properties (by
right-clicking on an empty area of your folder and choose Properties) of your
folder and click the Customize tab. Choose the right template for your folder
"Photo Album (for fewer files)".

Hope this information help, let us know!

I have the opposite problem. I want to disable the "set as desktop
background" option. Do you have any suggestions for how to do that?

This did not help. I already have this feature enabled, and it is working
great except for the fact that the text of my icons now shows the background
color instead of being transparent.
