Can I use DVD-R to save movie?

I made a montage for my sons birthday and when I saved it to a CD, it played
individual pics on my dvd player, not a movie. So I bought DVD-R to save my
movie to but I keep getting a message that says there is no CD in the
recordable drive. Can anybody help me please? Thank you!

What...exactly did you burn on the
CD and how did you burn it?

IOW...did you save the project in a
movie format and use authoring
software to create a VCD?

And...do you have a DVD burner?

I used all .jpeg pictures in my movie and mp3 files for the music. I do have
a dvd burner. I don't know what format I used.....or what a VCD is. Sorry I'm
new at all this.

OK...I suspect you are trying to burn
the disk from within Movie Maker.
Burning DVDs from Movie Maker is
only possible if you have the Media
Center Edition of Windows XP and
even then it's reported to be unreliable.

Maybe the following info will offer some
ideas.

VCD:

To play a movie on a DVD player...you
need software that can create a VCD...
or a DVD since you have a DVD burner.

First you would save your Movie Maker
project to a folder on your hard drive as
a movie...

To save as a .wmv movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next / Next.
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

To save as an .avi movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

Next...you need to import the completed
..wmv or .avi movie file into a software
program that will create a VCD. Most
DVD players will play a VCD...check
the manual for your DVD player for
compatibility. A VCD is a Video Disk
created on a CD instead of a DVD.

I've had success with a program called
'InterVideo WinDVD Creator'...there are
many others...'NeroVision Express'...is
another example. The main thing is the
program must be able to create a VCD
from a .wmv or .avi video file.

Hi John-
Ok, I saved my movie in .wmv file on my computer. Then I downloaded a trial
version of InterVideo WinDVD 6 because that is one that you mentioned. Now
how exactly do I get my movie to a DVD so I can play it on Sunday? I am
getting so nervous because I put sooo much time and work into it and my sons
first birthday is Sunday and I'm so afraid that I'm not going to be able to
play my movie I've worked so hard on. Please help! :) Thanks!

As I stated, I use Intervideo WinDVD
Creator for VCDs...and I have a much
older version. The Help file should
provide the instructions you need for
creating a DVD and the links I posted
for you about DVDs may be useful also.

Anyway...I would suspect you begin
by selecting..."Create DVD with existing
video file"

Browse to and select your .wmv file.

Now just use the wizard...it should
guide you through the basic process.

Good luck.
