Unable to Watch on DVD Player

Running MS Win Movie Maker Version 5.1; made my first flick; copied onto CD-R
- plays fine in computers using MS Media Player, but can't get it to play in
a DVD player. Tried to copy to a DVD-R (yes, I have a recordable DVD), and
no luck.

Do I need to change the format, since it's WMA?

I guess you mean you have a .wmv movie file?
Just burning a .wmv file on a CD or DVD will
not create a disk that a DVD player can read.
You must have authoring software that can create
a VCD or a DVD.

Maybe these links will offer some ideas:

Thanks John, but unfortunately, the link I was closest to using, since I
don't have additional was: http://tinyurl.com/jqfz

But my movie wizard doesn't give me all those options: I have "Video for
Lan", "Video for Broadband", and "Video for Local Playback".

Oh, and I did try the PAL, had a friend change his home theatre settings
from NTSC to PAL -- and man was he upset!! Lost his entire menu and had to
return the theatre system........ :)

Do I have to buy a program to do this??

What version of Movie Maker are you using?
Have you installed WindowsXP SP2?
It includes Movie Maker 2.1

And if you read the article thouroughly...you'll
see that additional software is required. The
article suggests Roxio MyDVD but there are
many others.

I'm guessing you are in the US...
NTSC is the choice for you.

Yes, and the links I posted for you explain that.

Nero, ULead, WinDVD Creator, Roxio...etc...

I'm using MS Windows Movie Maker Version 5.1 (Build
2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1219: Service Pack 2) Copyright 1981-2001 Microsoft
Corp, then it says Windows Movie Maker Version 2.1.4026.0.

Have you heard of "AVS Video Converter"?

Yes, USA here (actually, Jersey in the house!)

And thanks ..........I really appreciate this help !

5.1 is your Windows version and 2.1 is your
Movie Maker version...that's the latest one
available for WinXP.

I've heard of "AVS Video Converter" but
know nothing about it. If you try it...let us
know how well it works.

Hey thanks for all the help...........so far so good.........

I downloaded a shareware version of AVS Video Converter from tucows.com and
it was very easy to use, even for a novice like me. My concerns with it were
that some of the reviews were negative regarding once you purchase the
product that the company doesn't follow up with sending repair patches for
bugs. Purchase price $29.99.

The Total Video Converter was a bit harder to navigate. There were alot of
options, and it took me a couple of tries before I selected the correct
conversion format. Purchase price $45.99.

I'm new at this, so I'm not sure which option I should do.

Also, Effectmatrix watermarked the DVD in the upper left hand corner -- is
this because I used an unregistered version?
