Can i share my USB broadband modem VIA crossover cable?

I have been trying to get my two computers to share the
same internet connection. My desktop computer is the host
with the Modem connected to it. The laptop is the client
connected to the Desktop VIA crossover cable.

I have enabled Internet Connection Sharing in the Local
Area Networking Connections >Properties >Advanced. on my
desktop computer. but even though my desktop computer can
access the internet the laptop can't even if the ICS is
enabled. I have searched on the internet for a answer and
i have also asked my ISP and they dont know what the
problem is either. Is my question above possible, if so
what do i need to do?

Thanks

Most USB broadband modems also have an RJ45 socket,
allowing you to connect one PC with a USB cable and the
other with a CAT5 cable. Does yours have such a socket?

No, on the back is a RJ11 (Phone Line Socket) that
connects to a microfilter and a USB that connects to the
desktop computer?

No, on the back of the modem is a RJ11 cable that
connects to a microfilter and there is a USB cable that
connects to my desktop computer. Thats it.

Can the computers "see" each other? i.e. can you ping the laptop from the
desktop and vice-versa? I'd suspect that you are having a problem with your
ip addys.

Hello

You can use ICS(Internet Connection Sharing). See Windows Help.
Or you can use www.winproxy.com or www.wingate.com.

Hope it helps

Any broadband modem (cable modem) that i have seen that has both Ethernet
(RJ45) and USB connectors can only support one at a time. Only one can hasve
an atytachment to a computer or router.

In order to switch from RJ45 to USB (or vice versa, the modem power must be
removed for 10-20 seconds, and then reconnected. If both connectors are
attached to two different systems, the modem will refuse to communicate.
