Do I get my $1.00 for you finding the "Administrator" account that you
claimed did not exist?

1) I never claimed it did not exist - read the above
2)But because of the help I'll overlook that and consider $1 well spent.
3)I don't deliver but will mail. Shipping and handling $2.
If one of your other accounts had administrative privileges then resetting
the password for the "Administrator" account is as simple as typing this
command:
net user Administrator xxx {Enter}
where xxx is the new password.

If this is not the case then the well-known Nordahl boot disk is the
answer.

If this is not the case? Are you saying it may not work?
I did look on the Internet after your last post (above) and got (too) many
hits.
Nordahl may have been mentioned but I had no way to know it was the way to
go.
I'm afraid to try it and maybe cause a new problem (now that I know the PW).

Thanks a lot for solving my problem.

Thanks for the feedback. The $1.00 thing was a joke . . .

The Nordahl boot diskette/CD
(http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html) has been a standard
tool for several years for resetting a forgotten/lost password. It has an
excellent reputation. However, a far better method is to plan ahead by doing
this:
- Create and maintain at least two admin accounts.
- Only use one of them.
- Record the details for both accounts on a sheet of paper that
you can locate when the crunch comes.
If you adopt this method then you will never be in the embarrassing
situation of being unable to log on to your own machine.

I thought I did that with an account created via the
ControlPanel/UserAccounts and made it an Administrator.

But when I looked at the registry key permissions the way you showed me, it
did not have Full Control.

Which makes sense if the key creator gave permission to Administrator rather
than all Adminstrators. I don't know how setting permissions works but guess
the above is a possibility.

Of course if net user would let me reset Adminstrator, and I had know about
it, that would have worked.

Thanks again
