Component errors re-occur at same Registry location

T

Tom Lo

My Presario 900Z Lap Top runs Microsoft Windows XP Home edition Version 2
Service Pack 3 and all of the latest Microsoft updates.

During April 2008, I installed WINFERNO Registry Power Cleaner V2008.1.7
Since then, every Scan and Clean reports this same message:
“Found and Removed six component errors at Registry location:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.\clsid\1171A62F-05D2-11D1-83FC-00A0C9089C5Aâ€

Why do these same errors always return before the next Scan and Clean?
How might these repeated component errors affect performance?
How do I permanently remove these errors?
Thank you.

Registry cleaners produce results that are laughable at best and
dangerous at worst. They are marketed to people who do not understand
what they are looking at.

Stay away from registry cleaners. If you want to learn what a Class ID
is, Google is your friend. A registry cleaner is certainly not.

Run a full harddrive diagnostic,
it could be defective.

Also check for the HD overheating.
and as a final precaution...run a RAM test.

I assume from the description you are not having any problems and not
getting any error messages as you boot and use your machine, correct?
Other than Winferno finding those errors, everything is working fine?
I've never heard of WINFERNO and have no experience with it, but it
sounds like you are getting false positives on those error reports.
Can I also assume that you probably have some rather unique software
installed?

Some programs when they run create other programs "on the fly" and
those same programs occasionally will make registry entries for those
programs to use. Then when you exit those programs, those "on the fly"
creations are also deleted from RAM and from the drive if they used the
drive. So, WINFERNO may be seeing them, deciding they have no use
since they refer to nothing currently in existance, and declare them as
errors. And thus you get a false hit on those entries and it decides
they are errors.
That could also be why the entries come back; whatever that program
is, it checks for the enties and if they aren't there, it simply
recreates them every time.

Now you're wondering WHAT programs could those be? There ARE a few
legitimate programs that do this sort of thing; I run one myself, in
fact, a CADD program.
Then again, it could be a malware of some sort; virus, trojan, worm,
etc. etc.. So, unless you suspect you know which program you run is
unique enough to be doing somethning like that, and can prove it out, it
would be wise to run complete, updated antivirus and anti spyware
detectors on your system.
What antivirs do you use? Did you update it before using it?
What spyware detectors do you use? Most recommend an arsenal of at
least 3 reputable programs since no one of them as yet can cover all
areas necessary; each seems to have their own strong points in different
areas. I won't suggest names yet because waht you have may be entirely
functional and if I don't list them, you may feel you need to download
more of them; so first I'll ask what ones you use.
And do you check for updates before using any of them?

Also check your Event Viewer for any errors over the last say 24 hours
and report them here. They often tell a story of what's going on.
Information entries aren't important; just the errors to start with.

There is also an application called HiJackThis that's very handy if none
of the above work out, but since you don't seem to be having any
specific problems with how the machine works, it may not be necessary
yet.

If I were you, assuming everything on the PC works OK, I'd:
-- run winferno & let it remove the errors as you've already done.
-- Restart and before running ANY programs, run winferno first, and see
if the entries come back.
-- If they do come back that quick, then it would point to malware
unless you have some rather elegant program starting up at boot time.
-- If they don't, you could try running various programs and running
winferno until you see them come back.

Then think about what to do next and check back here.

Just out of curiosity, did you ask this question of the program's support
personnel before posting here? What did they say? If you haven't asked them
yet, here's a link to get you started.

Also, did you check your registry to see what program that key was
associated with? From what I can gather it's Flash Player 9. You might try
uninstalling version 9 and installing the latest version which is available
here.

Good luck

Do *not* run the registry cleaner. Registry cleaning programs are
*all* snake oil. Cleaning of the registry isn't needed and is
dangerous. Leave the registry alone and don't use any registry
cleaner. Despite what many people think, and what vendors of registry
cleaning software try to convince you of, having unused registry
entries doesn't really hurt you.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously
removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit
it may have.

Ignore this dunderhead; it knows not of which it speaks, unfortunately
and has demonstrated absolutely no support for his contentions and
allegations. Now he just spews this boilerplate over and over.

Boring and a lot to be desired as any kind of referential material.
Just another way to spread their misinformation if one actually reads
far enough.

Gerry,
Not only is that a bad pun, it's a bad link <G>.

It's working now. From here, at least. Lots of weather going on all
around the country right now; I've noticed other places temporarily
going away and coming back too. Here's a short excerpt:
TechNote
Troubleshoot Adobe Flash Player installation for Windows

What's covered
1.. Uninstall previous versions of Flash Player
2.. Download Adobe Flash Player
3.. Troubleshooting Adobe Flash Player for Internet Explorer
4.. Unable to view Flash content

And you said you never lie. What nonsense. You must have used a registry
cleaner on your brain.
It is as mixed up as your posts. (And I might add your registry since you
admit you get duplicates in it). The only thing a registry is good for is to
make money from gullible people that buy them.
You should be hung up by your testicles and your feet tickled with an
acetylene torch for
telling people to use any registry cleaner.

other Hello Nepatsfan.

Yes, I e-mailed Winferno in late November. They did not reply. That's why I
started this thread..
Thanks for the great suggestions. I will try them.
