Calling up directories in "details" view.

Hi -- I just got a brand new computer with XP. The OS view for directories
seems to be inconsistent. My strong preference is for the "Details" list to
come up, but the default setting seems to be "large icons." Worse, the OS is
inconsistent in remembering my setting. When I've changed the directory view
to "details," it comes up as icons the next time -- sometimes.

So I have 2 questions: Ideally, can the OS be configured so the default
setting is "details"? Alternatively, if that can't be done, can it be fixed
so it remembers my preference after I've set it? Thanks. -- David

Open Windows Explorer
set up one directory to the way you like it
click Tool/folder options.........at the top
navigate to View and click Apply to all folders
This should apply your present Directory View to all folders as you open
them.
