Changing file view defaults to details, not icons

How can I change the default file and folders View in
Windows Explorer to be 'Details', not 'Icons' ?

The 'Apply to all folders' option under Tools>folder
options>view doesn't appear to work on network drives(at
least at our site), so I want a way to have all users
default to the 'details' view, not 'icon' view.

I understand there is a configuration option somewhere
when setting up a XP image that you can switch on. Can
anyone help ?

Similarly at this same time, how can ls' fields (i.e
Author, title etc)be added to the default view ?

Hi

View settings are limited to 400. Try the following link to increase those
settings to 8000:

In reference to your question on having folders default
to 'details view'. I haven't found that configuration
option yet, but go to control panel, folder options, view,
make sure "remember each folder's view settings" is
checked. Its very time consuming, but once you
check 'details' it will stay that way. Probably not good
on a network. I can't believe there is not a configuration
option somewhere.

Windows Explorer/View/[Select Accordingly]. Then Tools/Folder
Options/View/Apply to All Folders.

Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
