hi! I would like to know is c$ enabled by default in xp and vista? I tried
\\pcname\c$ in some of my PCs. It work on some of the pc and not all. (same
domain name, using domain administrator account) Can this be done in a
workgroup environment?

If it's not on by default, how do i turn it on?

Thanks.

If you get cannot find path then disable the firewall on the target machine

Make sure you have a username/ppassword set otherwise it will try to
authenicate with a disabled guest account

C$ is the standard default share

In addition to the other replies .... if you can't access the C$ Share
across the network, make sure that it is enabled on the machine you're
trying to connect to. Open a Command Prompt and enter:

C:\>NET SHARE

... to see a list of all Shares on that machine. If the share is enabled, but
you can't access via the network then it's probably an issue with firewalls,
name resolution, etc.

As a Best Practice, the administrative shares (C$, D$ etc) should only be
used for administration and management - don't use them as an easy way to
share user data. Create separate, specific shares for directories with
documents etc you want to share.

Hope it helps,
Andrew
