Mapping to C: Drive on another XP Machine

We are currently running up our new SOE and we are unable
to map to c: drive on our new xp machines like we used to
be able to with our NT machines. I was wondering what we
need to do etc to be able to mapfrom one pc to another pcs
c: drive. Thanks

"unable" means, that when you go to "tools" - "map network
drive" and then type in "\\pcname\c$" like we used to with
NT it attpemts to connect but then brings up the error
message "network path \\pcname\c$ cannot be found". The
other pc is turned on and "use simple file sharing" is
turned off.

Is the server service running? Are you in a domain?

Enter:

nbtstat -a pcname

If the netbios table does not return a <20> entry, the server service is not
running on the remote machine.

I don't know about your network but when I try to map a drive from my XP
machine to my 98SE machine using the syntax in your post I get the same
error. If however I just map to \\pcname\c it works fine. My c drive on
the 98SE machine is of course shared. You should be able to just click on
My Network Neighborhood and see the My Shared folder of the other machine.
From my 98SE machine you would have to map to \\pcname\shareddocs.

Try this...

Right click "My Computer" and select "Map Network Drive...". Select drive
letter then enter \\computername\C$ in the Folder box. Select "Connect using
a different user name". Enter the Windows machine's administrator ID and
password like this... computername\administrator then the admin password.
You can check the "Reconnect at Logon" or leave it uncheck. Last, click
"Finish".
