Burning CD's, Adding files to CD's

Norm

I have an IBM T-40 Notebook and an IBM P-IV Desktop, both
running identical versions of Win XP Pro. The T-40 has a
DVD drive that can burn CD's and the Desktop has a CD-RW
(not a DVD drive). When I format a CD on one of the
drives (e.g., the DVD in the Notebook), I cannot add
files from the desktop to that CD. I get a message that
says "Windows does not recognize this CD-RW format..."
and tells me that to use that CD I need to erase it
first, i.e., reformat it.

It's hard to believe that I can't use the same CD for
files from both computers. I understand that the problem
is linked to the fact that one drive is a DVD and the
other just a CD-RW. Isn't there supposed to be a fix for
the problem, and if so, does anyone know how I can handle
this problem. I need the interchangeability badly, and
this is hanging me up.

Thanks.

it sounds to me like you are running two differnt types
of burning programs.
do you have packet writing set up on one of the computers?
the only time you need to format a cd or dvd is for
packet writing.
you need to have the same type of burning program on both
drives.
