Build 5744 won't shut down computer or restart

I installed RC2 build 5744 yesterday, now when I select to restart the PC, it
logs off from the workspace, but the screen goes black, and the computer is
still on. I have to manually shut off the PC at the switch to get it to shut
down and then to start up.

I didn't have this problem in Beta 2, or the 2 Public Release builds of RC1.
I am running on a Dell XPS 600, 3.2Ghz, 2 Gb Ram.

Lastly, I can't get to the Problem Reporting tool to report this. Was this
removed in Build 5744?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

I also have the 5744 shut down bug on one of my PC's. I am using an Asus
A8V-D/ VIA K8T800Pro chipset. All previous builds of Vista would shut down
properly.

I also have a Asrock 939Dual -SATA2/Uli chipset, that shuts down just fine
with 5744.

I would appreiciate any suggestions also.

I also have this problem and I am also running the K8T800 chipset. Maybe
this issue is caused by a Via driver?

Thanks AKWolf, your SATA Raid controller direction, was the fix for me to.

In my case only I use the 32 bit vista so had to load the
:\via_raid_v530c\VIA_RAID_V530C\drvdisk\i386\NT5\VIAMRAID.inf

Thanks

Hey RAY, are you using a VIA chipset?

My mobo uses K8T800 and have the same problem. I followed the reference
at the posted link but an error message generated says "The folder you
specified doesn't contain a compatible software drivers . . . " What
might I have done wrong?

AKWolf,
So how can I tell if I'm using a Via Sata controller. Yep it's a dumb
question, but I bought the system, didn't build it. Can I find this in Device
Mgr? Is so where can I look?

thanks

The link shown is for an AMD system. I have a Pentium D system from Dell,
they used a nVidia storage controller, I think.

So if I update using the RC1 beta drivers from nVidia will that fix my
problem?

Vista healed itself. Now I can restart and shut down, as before. But, I
didn't do a thing to fix it.

So explain that one!
