Blocking New Program Installed option

W

Wallace

When you install a new program in Windows XP, it really cleverly tells you
that you've just installed a new program. Actually I had actually realised
this and really don't want to go through the 10 components so that they are
no longer highlighted!!! Even better any local accounts also have them
highlighted as well as the Admin account!

How do I turn off this option? No doubt there's something in the registry
file.

Wallace, this is an easy one. Just rt click Start>select Properties>Start
Menu>Customize>Advanced>Uncheck Highlight newly installed Programs.

Hi,

If you are referring to newly installed applications being highlighted in
the start menu then, right click start button - Properties - Start menu tab
- Customize - Advanced tab and uncheck: highlight newly installed programs.

Go to Control Panel and double click Taskbar and Start Menu.
In Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, click on the Start Menu
tab.
On the Start Menu page, hit the Customize button.
In Customize Start Menu, click on the Advanced tab.
On the Advanced page, remove the check mark from the box next
to "Highlight newly installed programs".

Here's the relevant registry key.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Look for Start_NotifyNewApps in the right hand pane. This value
should be set to 0.

Good luck
