Big Problem - Can't undo reg changes

Please help me. I think I really messed up my computer. I was messing
aroung in the registry to simply change the right-click context menus,
and I must have deleting something by mistake. I was under

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]

I think the something I did under directory caused the problem.
I deleted something (forgot what it was called) under
Directory\ContextMenus\background. I think.
I save a back-up, but I can't run it because I get an error trying to
access the registry. It can't find the program, even when I run it from
the system32 folder, so I know it's not a shortcut problem. I can't run
most .exe programs like MS word. I can't run system restore (can't find
that either).

Please. I'll try anything...

Thanks for your reply!

...but I got another problem. In trying to fix this myself, I was
running windows in safe mode with command prompt to try to run
regedt32.exe from that. It didn't work there either. So I made a .bak
of cmd.exe then copied regedt32.exe to cmd.exe in hopes that windows
would run regedt instead of command prompt when I rebooted. Nope.
Anyway, I eventually got my .exe files to run again. Long story. ...now
the problem is I'm missing regedt.exe. Does anyone know where I can get
it?
