How to remove Frontpage 98 server extension directory under Windows XP Pro SP2

M

miktro

I want to rename/delete the directory C:\Program Files\microsoft frontpage\
from my PC but I keep getting the "Access is denied" message.

This directory holds the Frontpage 98 Server Extensions
(C:\Program Files\microsoft frontpage\version3.0\bin)

I am running the Frontpage 2000 server extensions.

The reason I want to delete this directory is that I have a problem with
embedded Microsoft Graphs (cannot edit/change any Graphs) - which I think
is due to the way the path to the OLE server is stored in the registry
using DOS 8.3 filenames.

I think the extra 'microsoft frontpage' directory is messing up the
abbreviated name 'micros~2' (similar to KB 173430).

I have tried removing frontpage extensions using Add/Remove Programs,
I have stopped the IIS server.

What else could be insisting that these files are not to be touched?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Mike,

Winlogon.exe process has a handle of that folder, that's the reason you're
unable to delete it. See if this note helps, from MSFT staff
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.frontpage.extensions.windowsnt/msg/6ffdf7aee94a1c77

If that does not help, you may try this question in the FrontPage / IIS
groups.
