Beta 1 worth keeping?

I have Beta 1 still on my machine..XP with SP 1 and 2. So far it has never
given me any hassle, so after reading some of the problems with Beta 2, I am
not inclined to install it. Is Beta 1 still worth using, or is it useless
with 2 being out now?

I am waiting until I see if 2 is going to behave itself, as I don't need the
hassles I have read about, plus if U don't remove 1, looks like there may be
conflict. I have even pondered removing Beta 1, but think I would have to do
a cleanup if I do that too. Any help is really appreciated......:)

Since Beta 1 is now obsolete, updates will probably stop soon, possibly at
the expiration date, 30 June IIRC.
If you are comfortable with Beta 1 and you continue to get updates, keep it.

There will be problems with anything.
But with something as widely used as Windows Defender, the problems may seem
wider than actual since the number of computers with a problem may seem
high.
The % may be relatively low.

Just keep in mind, you will eventually need to change something, so be
prepared.

I have a Dell Dimension 3000, 512 MB Ram, Windows XP SP2 and have no problems
now with Windows Defender. It is Very important to read the updated release
notes and the training info about WinDefend before trying to install. The
updated release notes clear up many of the issues causing the initial
problems with installation. It is also important, IMO, to make sure that you
are free of malware before installing, by doing complete anti-spyware and
anti-virus scans. I also suggest doing disc clean up and defragmentation
after running sfc /scannow and chkdsk /R. Windows Defender Beta 2 has
stronger detection and scan capabilities than MSAS Beta 1 and the Interface
is quite user friendly. I really can't imagine a reason not to upgrade. I am
just a home user, but I assume Beta 1 will be phased out after the transition
to Beta 2. Windows Defender is the future; Beta 1 is the past. The whole
point of the Beta 1 program was to prepare for the development of Windows
Defender. I have been quite pleased with the quick response Microsoft made to
the problems being encountered during the first installs and I am sure all
their efforts are directed to further improvements in the program. The best
is yet to come.

Thank U both for your inputs. If I decide to upgrade I will be sure to read
everything closely. So far I have no known malware on my machine, as I also
run Nortons, daily for updates and 2 days a week for complete scans. Even if
I decide to dump Beta 1, I will download some cleaning agent like CCleaner to
make sure it is totally off my system, and if I decide to upgrade, will
uninstall 1 do a thorough cleaning before installing 2.

Thanx again for the info. It helps to know what others are doing to keep
things running smoothly....:)

Beta 1 (with the December update) works until July 31 2006.

I would suggest keeping it.

My system experianced a significant slow down after installing Windows
Defender and I found the previous interface contained many useful features
(including control of updates) that are now missing. I revereted back to
Microsoft AntiSpyware Version: 1.0.701 and will wait until the bugs and
omissions are taken care of with Windows Defender. Microsoft AntiSpyware
Version: 1.0.701 worked well and I feel "If it ain't broke don't fix it".
