bandwidth / network monitoring

Hi,

We're after a tool that can tell us who's connected to what/where and using
x amount of bandwidth. Preferably something graphical and something that can
sit on a server and monitor all ip's and all traffic. We find that a few
members of staff stream music or are connected to something they shouldn't
be.

Our gateway is a cisco box so it would have to be able to sit on a 2k/2k3
server and monitor the gateway. Again, I'm thinking by IP.

Unfortunately, nobody here is CCNE so using the cisco box is out of the
question.

Can anyone suggest anything?

If you have your ports connected to a cisco switch you can monitor each
port independently using MRTG. You can see that way which user is
generating the most traffic, even after hours.

You could also try running port scans on the subnet to see if there are
any file sharing services running on the PC's

Locking down the Admin rights on the workstations would also prevent
people from installing these type of applications.
