Backup full and incremental

I'm trying to get a daily incremental backup routine to run, backing up
various data to a DDS tape. My question is, do I need to first do a normal
(full) backup of my files, and then change the backup setting from normal to
incremental, or does NTbackup do a full backup on the first run, and then
increment after that?

Cheers,
Håvard

You need to do the full backup first.

Hi,

You have to first do a Normal backup in a separate tape and then for each
consecutive days you have to do the incremental backups in a separate media.

You have to change the normal backup setting in Ntbackup for doing a
Incremental backup and Ntbackup will only do the selected backup setting.

Again there is no need to do a Normal backup everyday, if you are doing the
incremental backup. You have to do a separate Incremental backup for each
successive days for the rest of the week.

Lets say your company works from Monday to Friday and you are doing the
Normal backup on monday.

Then you have to do a seperate Incremental backup on all other days of the
week (Tues, Wed, Thurs and Fri).

Now if you need to restore the backed up data on sunday, then you have to
first restore it from the Normal backup taken on previous week monday and
then you have to restore the incremental data orderly from Tues to Friday.

Hope the above information helps.

Thanks for the quick reply. So I can then just change the bks file from
normal to incremental, and I'm up and running?

Why not set up two backup jobs? One to run once a week on Sunday and
do a full backup and one to run Monday to Saturday doing an
incremental.

Cheers,

Cliff
