back up which files first?

Danny helped with some questions I had (thanks very much)
but it raised some new ones:

When backing up files (before upgrading to XP) how does
one set priorities?

Of course, I know which of my personal files to back up,
but do I also need to back up every system-related file,
as well?

It's impossible to answer in specifics I'm sure. But what
are the types of things that MUST be backed up?

Cheers,

Only worry about your personal files.

If you were to format your hard drive you could install Windows 2000 and get
the computer back up and running from the Win 2k install CDs. There would be
no reason to backup system files, you already have them on the original
install CDs.

The files that you must have (personal files that you created) are the ones
you backup. Files for the Operating system and applications can be re
installed using the disks they came with.

Thanks Danny. Got it. Just one more question: what is
meant by "format your hard drive"?
