Which files to backup?

The answer to this question might be painfully obvious to you and, if
so, perhaps you'll be kind enough to provide the answer.

In OSX, I backup my Home folder which contains all of my personal
data, eMail, bookmarks, music, pictures, movies, etc. Basically,
everything that I have created (and had the good sense to store in my
Home folder) gets backed up to another hard drive. If my Mac 's
internal hard drive craps out, I can replace it, reinstall the OS and
my apps, and bring the data from my Home folder back over without a
problem.

How do I do this in XP (and Vista, if this is different)? I realize
one might do a "clone" of the hard drive but, for the same of clarity,
let's assume I only want my data backed up because I don't mind
reinstalling my OS and apps.

I found a nice (free) app called Karen's Replicator and it appears to
do a proper backup (only replacing changed files, adding new ones,
deleting ones I've deleted from my source. I backed up the entire
"Documents and Settings" folder. Is this the folder that contains, for
example, Outlook's database? Have I already found my answer?

Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks!

If you've done no folder redirects, then all your personal data is stored
in the \Documents and Settings [XP] and \Users [Vista\Seven] trees.
You only need to backup the specific Username, not all the profiles that
are shown ( Default User Default, All Users....)
*In Vista/Seven you'll find a Documents & Settings folder but it's just a
Junction Point for compatibility purposes.

I think you have the right idea in only backing up your own created data. Do
remember that you have to backup your email to be included in your own
created data.
I found that Karen's Replicator is excellent and once setup is completely
automatic
