Because of the "Mydoom" Worm, I applied all the
maintenance available to me on the Dell upgrade
notifications. Among the things I applied was an update
to Windows XP Professional and an update to MSN Internet
Explorer (IE). The IE update identifying number is
KB824145.
I have found a problem with this update on my machine.
It is the back ground color option found on the "Tools"
drop down menu on the tool bar of IE. If I select Color
on the "General" Tab and then select my own color choice
and also go to Accessibility and tell it to ignore the
colors specified on web pages I get an unsatisfactory
result; the color I select as a back ground color is not
used. Instead, I get some sort of off-white background.
If I do not select "Ignore colors specified on web page"
I get the correct web page color from the web page
designer. Further, since I have a dial up connection,
the lag in time between my request for a web page and
loading the web page does produce the color I selected
but, as soon as the web page loads, it goes back to the
off-white color I do not want.
Prior to updating with the KB824145 IE update, everything
worked as it should and I was able to select the my
background color choice for web pages correctly. I can
only assume that something in the KB824145 IE update has
interfered with the ability to correctly apply my color
choices to a web page. This ability is crucial to my use
of the web since I have a bit of trouble with my vision
and this is reduced by selecting certain colors for the
background of web pages.
