autotext not recognized in new document

I create an autotext, such as "Tamie" I assign it a name - "Tam" After I
have closed word, and reopen word for a new document, I type "Tam" and the F3
key for "Tamie" to appear. Nothing happens. A brief message flashes at the
bottom of the screen, in the status bar, saying it is not a valid autotext
entry. Can anybody help?

Addendum: I've tried to do this as a Macro also. It seems that whenever I
close Word and re-open it any changes that I have tried to make to the Normal
template are gone.
Thanks.

Is Adobe Acrobat 7.0 installed on the computer? If yes, then the
Acrobat 7.0 Create Adobe PDF toolbar add-in for Word prevents
Word from automatically saving changes to the normal.dot template
(which is where autotext and macros are stored). See
http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331259.html for several
solutions to the problem.
