Word 07 - formatting autotext

I am creating new autotext entries. I want the autotext to to pick up the
formatting of the document into which they are being inserted, i.e. not
applying the format in which they were saved. In Word 2003, autotexts would
pick up the format of the document into which they were being inserted unless
they were saved with the save hide on. But in 07 whether I use the show/hide
or not, and whether I select "insert content only"; "insert content in its
own paragraph" or "insert content on a new page", I only get the autotext
entry coming in as I saved it. Help!!

The formatting is stored in the paragraph mark that ends the autotext entry
(it was the same in 2003). If you want plain autotexts, make sure you don't
select the paragraph mark at the end of the item you select in order to
create the entry.

Thank you for your reply, however, I have been unsuccessful even following
your advice. I am not getting consistent results - whether I select the
paragraph mark or not, the autotext entry does not pick up the destination
formatting. Any other suggestions? Thank you

Does your selection have manual formatting applied? Does the item comprise
more than one paragraph?

The selection does have manual formatting applied and it may comprise more
than one paragraph. Sometimes only parts of the paragraph are being inserted
with the destination formatting.

This is normal behaviour when you have manual formatting and/or multiple
paragraphs which contain their own formatting commands embedded in the
paragraph breaks. That manual formatting will be retained and conflict with
the paragraph that you are inserting into.
If you want unformatted texts then they should be less than one paragraph in
length (without the paragraph mark that contains the formatting) and contain
no manual formatting.
