AutoRun/AutoPlay question

Ok, I can use tweakui to turn off "AutoPlay" on the optical drives (as
you just can't be sure these days, especially after instances like the
Sony-rootkit and other forms of DRM that like to self install, et al.)

What I noticed still happens is, right clicking on the drive from the My
Computer toolbar on the side of my desktop, the default action is to
AutoPlay, where as I want to open a disc in Explorer to /always/ be the
default action.

I realize this is because it reads the autorun,inf on the cd, which sets
the icon (icon=...) for the cd as well as the default action (open=...),
i.e:

[autorun]
open=AutoPlay.exe
icon=AutoPlay\icon.ico

I want the icon to be set, just like it is doing, but I do not want the
default action being set. The AutoPlay can still be i nthe right click
context menu, just not the default!

A temporary fix is to delete the 'shell' child key from the key that
gets aut ocreated in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2\

After deleting that shell handler the default action reverts to
"Explore" (I have explore as default so I see the tree.)

Is there a more perminant fix? Again, I don't necessarly want to remove
"Auto&Play" from the context menu, I just don't want it to be default. I
mean, if one want to disable autoplay, it alsmot defeats the purpose
when it's the default action as you can just click it and befroe you
realize it you've installed some malware (perhaps an extreme case, like
if you happened to put in an audio disc from Sony :p )

Thanks for any information.

Thank you. Will this still set the icon/label of the disc when inserted?

On another system I recall autorun was disabled in a way that the
icon/label was set once on boot (if there was a disc in the drive) but
refused to updatre anytime after.

I want to see the label and the icon.

Thanks

In Pro, run gpedit.msc to find the computer/admin/system area for
setting no autoplay.
In Home edition, you use the registry entry listed in the above link
